It sounds like it may be a migraine. The sensitivity to light is one indicator. Migraines can exhibit various symptoms, & the pain can be in a number of locations - often or typically affecting just one side of the head. In any case, even if it is a migraine, u should check it out with a doctor. Later in this post, l have provided a number of links which will provide additional information. This one will better help u diagnose the headache:

http://headachenetwork.ca/basic_information/how_migraine_diagnosed.php

l suffer from migraines also, & have recently learned a few things that have really helped prevent them.

If it is a migarine, & if u get these often, u may wish to try preventatives medication like Feverfew (100mg/day), & Magnesium tablets (2 X 250 mg/day)? These have worked for many people where other medications haven't, & there is clinical evidence supporting their effectiveness. The other nice thing about these is that they r over the counter. l found that this combination has helped prevent the headaches, helped reduce the intensity, helped me sleep better & reduced the exhaustion. There r prescription medications that can prevent headaches also, such as beta-blockers, & anti-depressants r used also (not because of depression, but because of a side effect of the medication which helps prevent migraines). The combination of feverfew & magnesium has significantly reduced my headaches & significantly improved my quality of life. It can take 4-6 weeks before they start being effective.

Also, avoid taking pain relievers too frequently. If u take more than 10-15 of these per month, they can actually start causing the headaches.

The other thing that l would suggest is a combination of triptans (Imitrex, Zomig, etc.) & Metoclop. You can up to about 10 of these month before they start causing headaches. The triptans r not pain relievers - they actually work only on migraines & pain relievers can be taken in conjunction with the triptans. Metoclop is an anti-nausea medication, but it also has anti-migraine properties & will help the absorption (and thus effectiveness) of other medications. All of these require prescriptions & therefore u need to first see a doctor, who may wish to do a catscan to rule out other possible causes first.

Massage may also be helpful. Press on ur shoulders & neck & see if u feels any pain. If so, that may be a contributing factor to the on-going headaches.

Good websites for migraine & headache info are:

If the pain is so severe that u cannot stand it, u may wish to go to the emergency / outpatients of the nearest public hospital If it is a migraine, they may give u a shot of something much stronger than u can get in a pharmacy to attack the headache.

Do not use codeine on migraine, it is a complicated headache to get & is a lot more than muscle spasm.

As u r not sure, you need to look for a rash because of light sensitivity. If u do have a one that does not go with pressing down of a tumbler glass, call an ambulance.

Migraines can stop as fast as they came on,if u cut out cheese & can take aspirin followed by paracetamol followed by a coke, you may be surprised at what happens
300mg aspirin followed by 500mg paracetamol+can of coke or caffeine drink. (ONCE OFF DOSE-WAIT )
migraine HAS TO BE treated gently, not with big doses of tablets,so l reccomend relaxing & trying to sleep-- unless u have the rash or continuous high blood pressure & not 'white coat blood pressure'.
DO NOT TAKE ASPIRIN IF YOU HAVE AN ULCER
IAM NOT A DOCTOR

Take ur temperature

My bet is it is now stopped

It could be a migraine. Stress is a common trigger. Light sensitivity is also extremely common with migraines. Usually the majority of pain from a migraine headache will be located on one temple (one side or the other, not both). You might have some radiating pain in ur forehead, down ur jaw or the base of ur neck, but u should be able to point to the worst pain with 1 finger. If the pain is spread out more than that, it is probably not a migraine.

The best way to tell is to go to an urgent care clinic or ER & tell them u think u have a migraine & ask for Imitrex. Its a Rx migraine medicine. If ur migraine goes away within 1 to 2 hours then u had a migraine. If it does not go away, u did not have one & the Imitrex wo not hurt you.
